JOB DESCRIPTION

Electrical Engineers are professionals who design, develop, test and supervise the manufacturing of electrical equipment and systems. They work across various industries, contributing to the creation and improvement of electrical products and systems.

QUALIFICATIONS

Academic qualifications may not be required, though some GCSEs/S grades or an equivalent qualification may be an advantage. Relevant NVQs/SVQs are available at Levels 1, 2 and 3. Apprenticeships combining practical work experience and technical training are available at Levels 2 and 3. Entrants must have good eyesight and normal colour vision.

TASKS

  • Design electrical systems, circuits, and components based on project specifications and requirements..
  • Contribute to the development of electrical products, such as electronic devices, power systems, and control systems..
  • Analyse and evaluate electrical circuits for efficiency, reliability, and compliance with industry standards..
  • Create prototypes of electrical systems and devices to test functionality, identify issues, and make necessary improvements..
  • Conduct tests and experiments to validate the performance of electrical systems, ensuring they meet design specifications..
  • Design and analyse power distribution systems, including transformers, generators, and transmission lines..
  • Develop control systems for various applications, including industrial automation, robotics, and mechatronics..
  • Address electromagnetic compatibility issues to ensure that electrical systems do not interfere with each other..
  • Work on signal processing techniques for applications such as communications, audio, and image processing..
  • Design and implement instrumentation and measurement systems for accurate data acquisition and analysis..
  • Utilize computer-aided design tools to create schematics, layouts, and simulations of electrical systems..
  • Prepare detailed documentation, including specifications, reports, and manuals, to communicate technical information..
  • Manage and coordinate electrical engineering projects, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation..
  • Ensure that electrical designs and products comply with industry standards, codes, and safety regulations..
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical engineers, software engineers, and technicians, to integrate electrical systems into larger projects..
  • Design and implement systems for renewable energy sources, such as solar power and wind energy..
